Travel from Ghana to South Africa Visa Free
Good news for both countries, Ghana and South Africa.
It has been a long time coming.
The Governments of both Ghana and South Africa signed an agreement to allow ordinary passport holders to travel to both countries visa free.
Yay!
This visa waiver agreement will be for a period of 12 months starting November 1, 2023.
What Does it Mean for Visa to be Waived?
It means citizens of both countries who want to travel to Ghana or South Africa for tourism or business can do so without obtaining a visa.
Can I Travel from Ghana to South Africa Visa Free?
Yes, as a Ghanaian ordinary passport (non diplomatic) holder, you don't have to apply for visa if you plan to visit South Africa and stay for a communulative period of 90 days.
Can I Stay in South Africa for More Than 90 days?
The visa waiver agreement covers a period of 90 days. As a Ghanaian, if you plan to stay for more that 90 days, you would have to apply for apply for a visa to extend your stay in South Africa.
The maximum stay is 90 days per year .
What Happens if You Stay Beyond the 90 days in South Africa
If you remain in South Africa for more than the 90 days and fail to apply for a visa/status, you will be declared an illegal foreigner according to the South African Immigration Act.
