The world is currently experiencing a global COVID-19 pandemic and Ghana unfortunately happened to have recorded a number of cases. This brief post is to help you keep track of the ever-changing news and updates concerning this pandemic.
What is COVID-19?
COronaVIrus Disease 2019 (COVID-19) is an infectious disease caused by a new coronavirus. This disease causes respiratory illness with flu-like symptoms.
How to be safe during this COVID-19 pandemic
- Wash hands regularly with soap and water or use an alcohol-based hand sanitiser (alcohol should be at least 60%)
- Avoid touching your face
- Practise social distancing
- Avoid public places as much as possible
- When you cough, cover your mouth and nose with a tissue
What are the symptoms of COVID-19?
- Fever (high temperature, feeling sick)
- Dry cough
- Headache
- Tiredness
- Shortness of breath
These symptoms may appear 2-14 days after exposure.
Also note that some people will be asymptomatic (show no symptoms).

GH COVID-19 Ghana Tracker App and USSD
The Government of Ghana has launched a new app and a USSD code that will help its citizens to assess and self report any symptoms on a mobile phone and carry the information to the COVID-19 Ghana team.
This initiative is important as it streamlines the process for all people in Ghana.
Dial the GH COVID-19 tracker short code *769# to assess this system. The app is currently not on the app stores, but it should appear next week.
You can however download the GH COVID-19 Tracker apk file and install on your android phone.
Make sure you read all the terms and conditions of the app before installing it.
